English Pointer / Mixed : : Male (neutered) : : Adult : : Large
Please contact brewer0107@gmail.com if interested in adopting Barley! Temperament - Great with adults, kids and babies. He's never bitten anyone and is gentle with small children. He is also great with other dogs. I've taken him to Dog Diggity off Ebenezer Church Rd. several times and he's always had a good report. I've also taken him to Petsmart for bathing services and his report has always been great as well. Barley also grew up around my brother's dog which is a Chocolate Lab. They always got along and never had any problems. Cats - My wife's cat is in the house and he's gotten along with her over the past 3+ years. He did want to chase her in the beginning, but we were able to mostly break him of that habit. He's never harmed her. Health - Barley's health has been great. The only reoccurring problem he's experienced is mild seizures 2 - 4 times a year. I've documented most of these and have spoke with several Vet's about this over the last 5 years or so. He's never urinated or defecated during an episode and generally acts a bit lethargic afterwards, but otherwise is fine. Due to the mild nature of the seizures all my Vet's have recommended not to prescribe any medication for them unless they increase in frequency. Vaccinations - Barley is current on all his vaccinations. He prefers heartguard for heartworm prevention. I've used different flea and tick prevention applications over the years. The small doses applied on their backs have seemed to work best for him. Vet's - Barley was a patient at Jordan Lake Animal Hospital for about 7 years. He is currently a patient at Dixie Trail Animal Clinic. If you need any of his medical history, I can request it if you like. Food - I've feed Barley dry Purina One Chicken or Lamb basically his entire life. I give him treats sparingly and don't feed him from the table. House Training - while Barley is generally good about not urinating or defecating in the house I have had some issues with him marking his territory in the area around the cat's litter box. Leash Training - I did not initially train Barley on a leash. He grew up when I was living at my Dad's house in Chatham county and subsequently had about 2 acres to run around on. We had an invisible fence to ensure he didn't run all over the neighborhood. Barley isn't perfect on a leash. His instincts are to run and explore when he's outside. He does know basic commands like "stay" and "sit." Ideal Situation - Someone who lives in a more rural environment and needs a second dog. He would be great as an only dog, but has historically been much happier when he has someone to play with. |
