6/8/12 - UPDATE

Goober has come a long way from the day we pulled him! He is still very active, but he now knows to sit and wait for his food, he knows what "NO" means, and he's almost got this house training thing down. He is a very smart boy. He has also gained some weight and lost the hookworms, so he's looking a lot healthier and happier. He looooooves to play with other dogs and any available human, especially if they've got a rope to tug on! Come meet him at one of our events, and you just might fall in love.

Goober is a true representation of his name. There is no better way to describe his personality: he is a big goober. He was pulled from death row at the last minute from a high-kill shelter in southern NC. He was emaciated, flea and tick infested, postive for hookworms and in desperate need of a bath. He's had one hookworm treatment (one more to go) and is all clean and flea/tick free! Now we just need to fatten him up, and he'll be all ready for his forever home.

For Goober, we will require a single family home with a well-fenced yard (he was able to climb over our four-foot fence, so he will need to be supervised when outdoors unless you have a 6ft+ fence). We're pretty sure that he's just out of his puppyhood (1-2 years old), since he has beautiful white teeth and is VERY active. He is also VERY tall and oddly strong for how weak his body looks. (I can't imagine how strong he'll be when he's consistently well-fed and hookworm free!) This also means that a home with small children probably won't work. They'd love each other, but he might hurt them untintentionally with his jumping.

He has no manners right now, since he doesn't seem to have ever been inside a home (counter surfing, freaking out when there's food around, etc.), so we're working on teaching him, but he will definitely still have a long road ahead of him as far as that goes. He will need a patient home, preferably with hound experience.

While he can be spastic and crazy, he is a huge lovebug. He adores people and other dogs, and he has a face that can break hearts. If you give him a chance, he will one day be a wonderful INDOOR dog, as most hounds are. :)
