Gretel needs a nice sized fenced-in yard as she loves going out with you to discover nature and play. She practices “not pulling” on the leash by walking the full perimeter of her yard daily. Gretel also loves her daily walks in the neighborhood or on local greenways in her harness. She is practicing sitting for treats while other dogs pass and has done very well. Gretel loves being near you and would do well with a family that is home or works from home and enjoys daily walks around their neighborhood. Gretel has energy so be prepared to play throughout the day with plenty of naps in between.
Gretel settles down nicely in a crate at night but would prefer to be in your company during the day and sitting with you on the sofa watching tv night. She can also settle and nap in an indoor pen during the day if you need to do chores, work, etc.
Gretel enjoys affection. Besides petting, you can kiss her face, rub and clean her ears and in between her toes too - but do be careful of her puppy bites. We are still working on the curbing any and all biting.
Gretel is learning commands quickly and is food motivated so learns fast with positive rewards (treats and pets and praise). Gretel is so very smart and would possibly do great in an agility class.
Gretel is still working on potty training. At night she sleeps in her crate almost 8 hours before needing to potty. Frequent trips out during the day have resulted in very few accidents indoors.
Gretel cannot be in a home cats or young children. She is very strong-willed and needs a firm hand.
