Chihuahua (short coat) : : Male (neutered) : : Young : : Small
Gizmo is the tiniest little ball of cuddles. He came in with a group of breeder surrenders. And, he is wonderful. This is not a shadow dog; he is a velcro dog. Once he decides you are his person, he loves hard. He is about 1.5 years old. He is tremendously underfoot and would not be a good choice for an elderly person (or someone who will be elderly in the next 15 years). He also requires frequent bending to pick him up as he's just too small to go down stairs and things like that. Additionally, he is not well suited for a house with children.
Ideally, his person would work from home or be able to take him to work. He does great in the car. But, he absolutely hates being put in his crate. He is doing well on potty training, but will require lots of consistency and frequent trips outside.
He has a shocking amount of stamina for such a little man and likes walking the length of the street although he does not like the leash. He may have a mild developmental delay which causes him to walk a bit like a high stepping horse and have a small soft spot in his skull. This should not affect his health or quality of life. It just makes him walk extra cute. He also has "shark teeth" where his baby teeth did not all fall out. He may still lose them. But, I would've never known had the vet not shown me. You can't see them unless you pull back his lip. These may result in medical expenses in the future if cleanings and extractions become an issue. But, most (especially small) dogs require regular dental cleanings.
He has shown absolutely no aggression to people or dogs. He has been completely non-reactive to wild bunnies and birds.
He is learning to play with toys. He is very interested in the idea and enjoys watching us play with our dog. But, he is just starting to grasp the concept for himself. Tug of war seems to be his favorite. Every now and then he gets the cutest little burst of energy and entertains us with a rare demonstration of his zoomie skills. Once he warms up, he is very curious. But, he is also very timid and afraid of quick movements. This is getting much better. He would make someone looking for a literal lap dog the happiest person in the world. He has a heart of gold and just wants to love. More about GizmoGood with Dogs
