Meet Butterscotch!
Butterscotch's Mom came with the rest of the Golden Retrievers, and Great Pyrenees mixes from the hoarding situation in South Carolina. Butterscotch's mom had a litter of 10 puppies, and Butterscotch was one of them.
Butterscotch and one other pup showed signs of nystagmus, a condition where the dog's eyes shake back and forth. This condition can result from a neurological deficit or a congenital disability. We aren't sure what caused Butterscotches nystagmus, but we are sure she is a fantastic and sweet girl.
While she is partially blind, Butterscotch can navigate through her foster mom's house and play with her foster siblings like any typical pup. Her depth perception can be a bit off at times, and she occasionally bumps into things. She often uses the walls as guidance to get around. We have noticed that the more tired Butterscotch is, the more the nystagmus shows and sometimes even causes Butterscotch to wobble her head back and forth in rhythm with her nystagmus.
Butterscotch is a fantastic pup; she is working hard on potty training and crate training and loves to play tug of war. She is looking for a home with the patience that a vision-impaired dog needs.
Butterscotch will only go to a home that has another dog, no small children, and will require a fenced-in backyard. We will not respond to applications that do not meet those requirements. We will not respond to questions regarding Butterscotch without an application that has been submitted showing that those requirements are met.
Butterscotch will need parents willing to provide adequate vet care for any further issues she may have with her nystagmus, beyond the traditional spay and vaccines.
Butterscotch is a beautiful girl who deserves a loving home. Please make sure that you are willing to provide that home, adequate vet care, and meet the standards set by the foster parents before you apply for her.
