Mason is a wonderful Chessie. He is settled enough to be an incredible companion in the home- at my side when going about daily activities, curled up next to me while patiently waiting for a walk, but active enough to enjoy going running through the woods or retrieving on the beach. His only flaw is that he is overly protective of the children in our family. When a stranger approaches he is very protective. Once he knows someone he will greet them warmly and settle down next to them while the visit. When taken out of our home situation and away from the children these overprotective tendencies are not seen by the trainer. I think Mason would thrive in an environment where he is with is person/people most of the day and has space to run and play. Perhaps a home without young children would remove the burden of protecting from preceived threats. We have carefully introduced him to doggy playmates and he really looks forward to time with these canine friends. He is such a sweet boy and it is really important for us to find him the right home. Mason rings a bell when he needs to go outside. He is an excellent loose leash walker, allowing elderly and children to walk him safely. He is also great off leash.
