German Shepherd Dog (medium coat) : : Male (neutered) : : Young : : Medium
What a great dog! Duke joined our program after being dumped in a rural neighborhood with another shepherd. Err! I honestly can't imagine why. Duke is friendly to all and is excited to meet anyone. He loves to be pet and cuddled. He's alert always and likes to observe whats going on around him. He knows basic commands such as sit and shake. He walks pretty well on a leash, pulling here or there, but for the most part it's smooth sailing. Duke appears to be potty trained as there have been no accidents in the house. He is affectionate and doesn't require too terribly much by way of exercise. He is not reactionary to many, if any, situations. In fact, we've never even heard him bark. While on walks we pass strollers and joggers and other dogs along with lawn mowers and leaf blowers and he keeps right on going. Bicyclists and playground activities don't phase him. Squirrels, however, are a different story. I don't know how much of a prey drive he has but it's in there. I would not recommend a home with cats or chickens as a safe measure. Duke does not have stellar indoor manners yet. He likes food and knows he's big enough that he can jump up and get it. Work in progress there. The good thing is Duke is food motivated and will learn quickly with a little patience and guidance. He will sometimes join us on the couch during family time but typically just plops on the floor. Again, I can't imagine why anyone would dump off a dog as sweet and good natured as Duke. If you have the time to put into a little training, Duke will make an amazing pet.
