This beautiful puppy has an interesting background. She is part of a back yard breeder situation that went awry. Good thing for her!  Akela is a sweet pup but until her rescue only knew living among other dogs, many dogs, outdoors. Humans were a mystery to her, and a bit scary! We are doing our best to change that and let her experience a whole new type of love and care.  It's working!

Akela is playful and fun loving and goofy. She greets her foster mom every morning with both hugs and kisses. She has started responding to her name and knows to sit when treats are being handed out.  She's comfortable enough to get sassy when she doesn't want to comply and will play all day long with her partner in crime, Siku.  Toys are a favorite discovery and playing chase is her chosen go to game. Belly rubs are heavenly, as are ear rubs, and she will go comotose until you stop. She sings when excited and sings a different tune when the day is done and it's lights out.  For a pup who never knew humans she has figured out quickly that we're kind of fun to have around.

Akela has things to learn. Trust being first and foremost. Females seem to be less intimidating to her, whereas, men can spook her.  She may seem skittish when first introduced but she's actually laid back when in her comfort zone.  Once Akela has sized you up and decided you're ok, she enthusiastically greets you every time. She is not adventurous presently and prefers the security of what is familiar.  Quick movements or unknown noises can be alarming. Having space to distance herself seems to be the key there. With space, she's merely observant. It is unknown if Akela is potty trained. At this point in time the best way to put it is that she makes good decisions. There are no accidents in her pen or in the house but she has access to the outdoors at all times.  She does not like the leash, yet. Between feeling trapped and everything being a new situation, it will take time to adjust to leash walking.  She is, however, happy as a lark playing outside with the wind between her ears. There is a beauty to a dog who has but so many demands.  Akela loves other dogs, of all sizes, and has plenty of energy to play with them.  She is living with older children in her foster home without incident.  She has been introduced to cats and whereas they initially scared her, now she's merely curious about them.

All in all, Akela will be a great dog at the end of the day if you have the patience needed to show her the ropes. That will be the key to her success. If you are looking for a dog to take shopping or hang out with downtown for lunch or travel with regularly...she's not the one.  If your home, or you, are loud and unpredictable, she'd be happier elsewhere.  She needs an unwavering calm initially and someone who respects she's led a 'pack life' thus far.  Baby steps!  You can't let her loving nature fool you into thinking she's the average dog. She's a special dog. A remarkable dog even. But not the average dog.
